Hanns in der Gand - Soldatensänger, Liederfürst

Undoubtedly, Ladislaus Krupski, born in 1882 as a Polish "secondo", found the leading role of his life under the stage name Hanns in der Gand with his immense repertoire, his versatile knowledge of languages and his captivating performance skills. The man from Uri became probably the most prominent folk song researcher and folk song singer in Switzerland. On behalf of the Swiss Folklore Society (SGV), he traveled through Switzerland on his "collecting trips" to the remotest hamlets to track down traditional songs, which he meticulously noted down, later also recorded with wax cylinders and made accessible to a broad public as an editor and concert singer.
