Tell - between liberation and revenge

A Uri myth from a historical, legal-philosophical and theatrical perspective on the occasion of the Tellspiele 2024. 

The Tellspiele 2024 will have gone down in history when this year's Uri Gene takes a post-Dernière look at the folk hero from Uri. Anyone who has not yet had enough of Tell and Schiller, myth and theater, is cordially invited to take a look behind the character, behind the story, behind the theater production.

The event will shed light on the significance and charisma of the myth of “Tell” in general and specifically on the conflict between liberation and revenge from three perspectives: The historical view asks how the legend was handed down. Who tells of the man with the crossbow, and for what purpose? In view of the confrontation between Tell and Parricida, the legal-philosophical view focuses on the classical topos of tyrannicide, its history of ideas and, if necessary, its justification. Finally, the concept of the current production is examined in depth from a theatrical perspective.

To get in the mood for the topic, there is also the opportunity to explore the art and cultural-historical treasures of the Tellspielhaus both in front of and behind the stage with an expert guide.
