Lecture "Die Alpen - ein gefährdeter Lebens- und Wirtschaftsraum im Zentrum Europas"

The most important Alpine researcher in the German-speaking world, Prof. em. Werner Bätzing, is coming to Altdorf to give us an insight into his holistic view of the Alps. For decades, Bätzing has dedicated himself to researching the Alpine region like no other. The first version of his book "The Alps" was published while he was still studying geography at the Technical University of Berlin. This was followed by a doctorate and habilitation at the University of Bern and a professorship in cultural geography at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In his research, he pursues an integrative approach that focuses on the interconnectedness and interplay of economy, society and environment in relation to the Alps. As head of the Archive for Integrative Alpine Research, he has compiled a remarkable and thematically unique collection of literature on the Alps.

The lecture presents the interested public with an up-to-date overall picture of the Alps from an economic, social and ecological perspective. The renowned Alpine researcher will also take a closer look at the situation in the canton of Uri and the Gotthard region in particular.
