Paths, passes and roads

Paths in the canton of Uri from a cultural-historical, touristic and legal perspective.

The canton of Uri is home to numerous paths of all kinds: From hunting trails to hiking trails, from alpine, forest and pass roads to the Gotthard highway. Uri has been a transit region since time immemorial, and as such is still on everyone's lips today. The road infrastructure has been shaped by locals and travelers to Italy from far and wide, farmers and muleteers, mountaineers and merchants, motorists and bikers as well as the military. The network of roads and paths is dense, sometimes spectacular, sometimes inconspicuous, here crowded, there deserted. Crossroads, bridges, pubs and parking lots make up its features. Cultural and natural spaces are linked and at the same time dissected, a landscape-shaping force becomes visible.

The event sheds light on the significance of Uri's paths, passes and roads from three perspectives: The cultural-historical view looks at the use and settlement context of historical transportation routes. The tourism perspective is dedicated to the invention and construction of themed new hiking trails with stages lasting several days, which are currently in vogue and are attracting new visitors. Finally, the legal section deals with the legal basis at federal and cantonal level as well as questions of construction, maintenance and liability.

To get in the mood for the topic, there will also be the opportunity to walk the Bauen-Seedorf section of the Swiss Path with an expert guide.
