29. March 2026

Adlersaal, Hauptstrasse 16, 6170 Schüpfheim

Event organized by the Entlebuch Historical Society and the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere Reserve

The creation of the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere Reserve – review and outlook Panel discussion and launch of the report “The history of the creation of the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere Reserve”

The creation of the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere Reserve coincided with a turbulent period marked by the protection of moorland biotopes and the associated restrictions, which fueled fears about the future in the region. How was it possible to establish the “Lebensraum Entlebuch” development project and the resulting biosphere reserve in this situation? How were fears transformed into opportunities? How has Entlebuch developed thanks to the biosphere, and how should this development continue? These questions will be explored in a panel discussion with representatives from the early days of the biosphere and people currently involved in its development. As a starting point for the panel discussion, historian Rahel Wunderli will present her insights into the topic, which she has gained through her research. The panel discussion will reflect on the past and, building on this, look to the future. The event will be moderated by Roger Jud, editor-in-chief of the Entlebucher Anzeiger.
