Alps in motion: Making Ruins

Alps in motion

Making Ruins

Her dissertation deals with the cultural landscape of the Vals Valley. There are over 600 barns that populate the valley, and due to melioration, many of these barns are now empty. Lisa has spent the last three years exploring the life cycles of the stables and their relationships with the environment through poetic and participant observation. She opens channels of creativity and correspondence through the use of materials from the environment and the barns themselves, such as charcoal, lake pigments, and textiles. Through her work, she challenges the idea of objects and artifacts by transforming them into being through relationships and creative action.
