The transdisciplinary project "Correspondences - Elements of a Theory of the genius Loci" at the Institute Cultures of the Alps served to develop a conceptual system of coordinates for conceptualising the phenomenon of "genius loci" in relation to those specific spatial qualities that shape Alpine space and its socio-cultural dimension. Amongst others, reference was made to theoretical approaches from aesthetics, architectural theory and theology as well as to artistic positions and approaches. The project also aimed at concrete testing of the conceptual tools within the framework of "aesthetic field research" at various locations in the Alpine region and was thereby an element and contribution to “basic research” on the conceptual framework of dealing with the specifics of the “cultures of the Alps”.
