3. Andermatt Tourism Law Forum

Ski resort operation and second homes

Aims of the conference

This conference continues the series of events dedicated to tourism law in all its facets. The Sawiris Resort in Andermatt, which has been under planning and construction for sixteen years now, is the ideal venue for this conference. It is regarded as one of the most outstanding major tourism projects in the Alps and is linked to a large number of legal procedures and decisions that have reached a new dimension in terms of density and scope.

This third session is dedicated to the operation of ski resorts and second homes. After a first block covering current information on trends, politics and law since the last conference, the second block will focus on legal issues, in particular from the perspective of ski area operators regarding cable cars and skiing both on pistes and in the context of ski touring and off-piste runs. Finally, the third block is devoted (once again) to the law on second homes, but this time at the interface of the ZWG / Lex Koller. The various challenges, in particular the role of the expert opinions of the Swiss Society for Hotel Credit (SGH), are developed using a practical example, before the scope of the tourism communities to limit second homes and provide affordable living space for locals is examined. The conference will conclude with a reflection and discussion.
