Hotel Radisson Blu, Bärengasse 1, 6490 Andermatt

4. Andermatt Tourism Law Forum

Tourism taxes and ski resort closures

Aims of the conference
This conference continues the series of events dedicated to tourism law in all its facets. The Sawiris Resort in Andermatt, which has been under planning and construction for sixteen years now, is the ideal venue for this conference. It is regarded as one of the most outstanding major tourism projects in the Alps and is linked to a large number of legal procedures and decisions that have reached a new dimension here in terms of density and scope.

This fourth session is dedicated to two current topics: tourism taxes and the development of ski resorts. After a first block covering current information on trends, politics and law since the last conference, the second block will focus on legal issues relating to tourism taxes. These include both classic levies such as visitor's tax and tourism promotion tax as well as second home levies with non-fiscal objectives. In particular, the planned property tax on second homes in the event of the abolition of the imputed rental value will also be discussed. The third block is devoted to legal issues in connection with the development of ski resorts, exemplified by the Andermatt-Sedrun connection. The large number of proceedings, in particular from planning, cable car and environmental law, as well as the perspective of the landowner Korporation Ursern will provide in-depth insights into the legal challenges of such a major project.
