Young people leave, foreigners come: Uri and migration

Uri is full of migration stories. Tell us about your experiences and write a piece of Uri history yourself.

In the project "Uri in Transition - Population and Science in Dialogue", the Institute "Cultures of the Alps" has been working for some time on the question of how migration has shaped the canton of Uri and continues to do so today. Now we are organizing a forum in Göschenen where the many different experiences of migration will have their say. You can expect a panel and room discussion on topics such as brain drain, integration and other migration phenomena and a morning full of stories, new acquaintances and sensory impressions.

Times: From 9:15 am to 12 noon followed by an aperitif from the barbecue

Panel guests:

  • Nathalie Hiltbrunner grew up in the canton of Schaffhausen and moved from Bern to Altdorf four years ago. She is involved as a volunteer in the "mitenand" project and commutes to Bellinzona for work.
  • Bavithiran Mahaalingham grew up in Horw as the son of Tamil refugees. He still lives there today and looks after refugees in the canton of Uri as a social worker for the SRK.
  • Seraina Wicky moved from Haldi to Göschenen twelve years ago and has been running the Gasthaus Göscheneralp since 2016.
  • one more guest in clarification

Moderation: Rahel Wunderli (Project Manager) and Chiara Zgraggen (Research Associate)
Collaboration: Thomas Brunner (Cantonal Monument Conservator), Daniel Speich-Chassé (Member of the Institute Management) and Myriam Arnold (PR specialist at Incendio AG)

We look forward to your active participation!
