Thanks to the Uri-based Institute for Alpine Cultures in Altdorf, the canton of Uri has also established itself as a well-recognised centre of higher education. The institute – and, by extension, Uri as a centre for research – is now receiving additional support: the ‘AlpKultUR’ Friends’ Association was founded on 25 June 2026. The Cultures of the Alps Institute in Uri is part of the newly founded Swiss Alpine Research Collaboration (Swiss ARC). This association of four Alpine research centers in Switzerland ensures national collaboration and visibility in the field of alpine research.
