The Institute Cultures of the Alps makes its library accessible to interested parties. The specialist books can be found via the catalog of the Uri Cantonal Library and can be consulted at the Institute on Dätwylerstrasse.
Alpine economy and mountain hotels, historical theory or methods of artistic research: anyone interested in scientific work on the Alps will now find a place to immerse themselves in a topic at the Institute Cultures of the Alps at Dätwylerstrasse 25. The Uri research institute is making its library open to the public. The holdings can be searched via the online catalog of the Uri Cantonal Library, and workstations are available on site.
In cooperation with the Uri Cantonal Library, the institute has indexed its book collection and put it online. "We also want to make our store of knowledge accessible to the public," says Romed Aschwanden, Managing Director of the Institute Cultures of the Alps. Martina Wüthrich, Co-Head of the Uri Cantonal Library, is convinced: "Making the holdings of the Institute Cultures of the Alps accessible in our catalog can be of great benefit to researchers who also use the extensive Uraniensia holdings of the Cantonal Library - and vice versa". For the time being, the specialist books can only be used by appointment and on site. Depending on resources and demand, an expansion of the service is conceivable.
The Uri Institute of Alpine Cultures at the University of Lucerne has been conducting research in and around the canton of Uri since 2019. After completing a pilot phase, it has been in permanent operation since January 2023, financed by the Canton of Uri, the Dätwyler Foundation and the corporations of Uri and Ursern. "By opening up our library, we hope to have a stronger exchange with interested members of the public and put down more local roots," says Romed Aschwanden.
