Since 2022, the online magazine Syntopia Alpina from the Uri Institute Cultures of the Alps at the University of Lucerne has been providing impetus on sustainability issues. The printed book now takes an in-depth look at these initiatives. Authors from science and practice shed light on the qualities of sustainability in the interplay between agriculture, forestry and energy management, as well as tourism, housing and local crafts. They are guided by the concepts of "use", "utilization", "care" and "nurturing", linking them to actions specific to the Alps that could serve as a model for the planetary biosphere.
The Uri Institute Cultures of the Alps, under the direction of literary and cultural scientist Boris Previšić, is dedicated to the special features of the Alpine region in all its thematic breadth.
At this book launch at the Alpine Museum, Boris Previšić (Director of the Institute and author), Marco Volken (photographer) and Aline Stadler (editor) will present the Institute's first anthology - and provide an insight into current debates concerning the future of the Alpine region.
