The Institute Days kicked off with a workshop organised by the ‘Alpine Futures Literacy’ working group. This new working area of the Institute, headed by Dr Jens Badura, deals with the Alpine-related discourse on the future.
The following morning, Claude Hauser and Philippe Vonnard gave an introduction to their research project on the globalisation of the Alps. This SNSF-funded project focuses on the historical interdependencies of various mountain ranges - from the Alps to the Andes and the Himalayas. In the afternoon, we embarked on a varied and extremely exciting excursion with Uri Netflix star and professional alpinist Dani Arnold. During a short hike in the municipality of Bürglen, he told us about his experiences as a mountaineer. Arnold continued this conversation the same evening together with Carmen Carfora, Sustainability Officer of Andermatt Swiss Alps and Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG, and cultural scientist Boris Previsic in the form of a public panel discussion. The event, which was moderated by Aline Stadler, met with great interest and was therefore well attended.
On Friday, the participants had time to review the panel discussion. Finally, the programme included two colloquia by doctoral students Lucia Leoni and Maurizio Raselli, who are working on Hauser and Vonnard's research project.
