Threatened and idyllic "Heimat". Imaginations of the Alps in support of and against three Swiss power plant projects (1918-1958)

Threatened and idyllic 'Heimat'. Imaginations of the Alps in support of and against three Swiss power plant projects (1918–1958)

In his dissertation, Oliver Kerrison examines aesthetic conflicts surrounding 20th-century Alpine infrastructure projects. The focus is on the unrealized power plant projects in Ursern, Rheinwald, and Silsersee-Bergell. The aim is to highlight conflicts between landscape design and conservation with regard to their aesthetic dimensions. The dissertation thus sheds light on the pattern of interpretation of the Swiss Alps as an idyll to be preserved, which continues to this day.
